UPI scam checker: what to review before approving a payment

UPI scams often depend on a tiny misunderstanding: a collect request may take money from you, not send money to you. Slow down before approving anything unexpected.

Before you approve

Check whether the request is asking you to pay or receive. Refunds and prize payments should not require your UPI PIN.

Verify the name, phone number, payment handle, and reason for the request through a trusted channel. Do not rely only on the message thread that sent the request.

Never share OTPs, UPI PINs, card details, or screen-sharing access with someone claiming to be customer support.

Paste the suspicious payment message or upload a screenshot to Scamy before you approve, especially when the message uses urgency or claims your account will be blocked.
